my first ring!
completed may 19 2026 i signed up for a jewelry making class, and this was the first ring i made!
this started as a piece of thick brass wire, which i bent into a twisted shape. that is done by clamping it in a vise, then using a steel bar to wind it until it's even.
then it goes through a roller to flatten it.
then we did the bezel setting, which involved cutting a flat strip of brass to fit around the stone, then soldering it to a back plate.
this is then soldered (without the stone) to the band, which just requires a little bit of filing. it is a little tricky to make sure that this part lines up right.
from there it just needs a polish and setting! setting is not super hard, but requires a careful hammering around the edge to ensure the stone is secure.
all done!
